1-3RD JULY :: SNETTERTON 300

The British Superbike round at Snetterton is one of the fastest on the calendar and with top speeds of nearly 200mph. Lots of slipstreaming followed by heavy braking means that there are always plenty of overtaking opportunities at Snetterton. For sheer speed the long Revett Straight provides amazing slip-streaming action prior to the left-right flick through the Esses and the Bomb Hole where extensive works have been carried out in terms of run-off area. Major investments have been made in the facilities for both competitors and spectators under the progressive management of the MotorSport Vision group.

JAMES WEBB RACE REPORT:

SNETTERTON RACE REPORT

1/2/3 JULY 2011

JAMES WEBB – HARLEY DAVIDSON

FRIDAY FREE PRACTICE:

I knew a few people had been around the new Snetterton 300 Track before but only 1 or 2 and I normally learn tracks fairly quickly.  I thought Thruxton suspension setting would be a good starting point but it was way too soft.  I stayed out for a whole session to get to grips with the track and ended up 6th which I was not happy with but knew the changes we had to make and was ready to give it full gas tomorrow in qualifying.

QUALIFYING:

I got my head down from the start and was feeling really comfortable on the bike the changes we made where bang on!  I ended up the session in P2 and was pleased with that.  I relaxed more on the bike and let my time come to me rather than over trying.

RACE DAY:

It was hot again like Friday and Saturday we made a few changes to the bike again just to try and make the bike that bit better but they did not work and made the bike run wide but I just had a steady ride round and ended up P6 but was not really worried.

RACE:

I got of to a good start in 3rd position, I felt comfortable running at the pace set by the top 4 but didn’t want to start chopping and changing places too early on in the race.  By about lap 6 I thought I would make a move a push to get to the front, after I passed Peter Ward for the lead, unfortunately for him he broke down.  I didn’t realise this but kept my head down and stayed pushing and felt confident that I could hold the lead to the end of the race.  I felt I was loosing time through the slow bits but was making up around the fast sweeping corners.  Patterson and Compton tripped each other up a little on the last lap allowing me to pull a bit of a lead to win the race!!

Thanks to Blade Motorsport, Danny Webb, Steve Burgess, Shark Helmets, Motor Direct, Jim McNulty, Squeaky Clean and everyone else that has helped and supported me.
